A group of intrepid Canadians recently participated in the Great Ethiopia Run on November 27th, 2005 in Addis Ababa. www.ethiopiarun.org
Together they raised approximately $60,000 for HOPE's work with Aids Orphans in Africa.
The course was only 10 km but at 2500 meters above sea level, it was quite the challenge.
Following the race a group of the participants travelled to HOPE's water programming in south Ethiopia and visited the village of Tsama, a journey requiring a 3.5 hour gut-wrenching drive from the nearest large town, to travel a mere 40 km - and that is in the luxury of a 4x4 vehicle.
In the remote area around Tsama, 2 to 3 children die each week. They die primarily of dysentery, a water-borne disease that is easily preventable with proper sanitation and access to clean water. HOPE can ensure clean water for these remote and forgotten people.
$100,000 is needed.
